Energy Alberta will be going about geotechnical drilling studies this spring to support planning for the proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project.
According to a notice from Energy Alberta, the work is targeted to take place in March within Siting Option 1; 20-30km north of Peace River within the County of Northern Lights. The drilling program is intended to collect site data that will help assess geological conditions, groundwater characteristics, and potential geohazards or seismic activity in the area.
Energy Alberta says the information gathered will play a key role in project design and determining whether the location is suitable for a nuclear generating facility. Field crews may be seen in the area operating survey equipment or drilling rigs as part of the environmental field studies.
The company says the work will follow industry best practices to minimize disruption to the land, waterways, and nearby communities. Questions about the project or the geotechnical drilling program can be directed to info@energyalberta.com.
