Wildfire Season started in Alberta for 2026

alberta-wildfire-5

Alberta’s wildfire season officially begins on March 1, marking the start of heightened vigilance across the province.

This year, officials anticipate a more typical start compared to previous seasons.

Despite recent snowfall, concerns about drought persist.

Since January 1, there have already been 26 wildfires in Alberta, underscoring the need for continued caution.

Residents are urged to exercise care with outdoor activities to prevent human-caused fires.

Fire permits are required for burning debris at residential, industrial, or agricultural sites within the Forest Protection Area.

As the season progresses, officials will monitor conditions closely, ready to respond to any emerging threats.

David Forsythe is a Wildfire Information Officer in Edmonton.
