Canadian Armed Forces Travelling Through Peace River

canada-flag-2
Residents in Peace River area may notice a Canadian Armed Forces presence over the coming days as military personnel and vehicles travel through the region as part of Operation NANOOK-NUNALIVUT 2026.
The Canadian Armed Forces will be moving equipment and personnel from Edmonton to Yellowknife between February 8 and 11, with Peace River planned as a short stopover point along the route. Movements will take place during daylight hours.
Operation NANOOK-NUNALIVUT is an annual winter training exercise focused on the Canadian Armed Forces’ ability to operate and sustain forces in the High Arctic. The exercise also tests new capabilities and strengthens interoperability with allied forces under extreme weather conditions.
During the journey, members of the public may see military personnel in operational clothing during brief, scheduled rest stops. The Canadian Armed Forces note that no weapons or ammunition will be carried during public stops along the route.
Motorists are asked to use caution when travelling near convoy vehicles and to pass safely. Convoys will move in small groups with spacing between vehicles and are not expected to disrupt traffic. More information on the exercise is available through Operation NANOOK on Canada.ca.
