Tariff removal on Canola with China, welcome news

alberta-canola

In a significant development for Canadian agriculture, the chair of the Alberta Canola Producers Commission and the Canadian Canola Growers Association, Valhalla farmer Andre Harpe, has expressed strong support for the recent tariff agreement with China.

Harpe stated he is “extremely happy the announcement,” highlighting the reduction of tariffs on canola seed to 15% and the elimination of tariffs on canola meal as “really, really good news.”

He noted that while the 100% tariff on canola oil remains, the overall progress is encouraging.

Harpe also mentioned that, despite previous tariffs, there has been “quite a bit of movement” of canola in the Peace region, as farmers require cash flow during the winter months.

The Grain Growers of Canada welcomed the renewed engagement between Canada and China, emphasizing the importance of stable, rules-based trade for Canadian farmers.
