The MD of Greenview got entitlement to ask the Federal Government for the procedure of this, at the recent Rural Municipalities Convention in Edmonton.
Despite the process being illegal since the early 1990’s, the jurisdiction feels a market can be brought forward for this, in time of the struggling economy.
Many residents already consume unpasteurized dairy products, this despite risks of salmonella and E. Coli.
The resolution requests that sale of raw milk be “under specified conditions” to informed consumers, as well as the development of frameworks, including producer food safety training, labelling requirements, traceability, on-farm oversight, and the option to pilot direct sale programs in rural municipalities.
