Canada Post and Postal Workers Reach Tentative Deal

canada-post

Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) have reached an agreement in principle on a new contract, temporarily easing tensions and concerns about potential service disruptions during the busy holiday season.

As part of the preliminary deal, CUPW has agreed to pause all strike action, while Canada Post has committed to suspending any lockout measures.

The two sides say they have settled the major issues at the bargaining table, but the agreement still requires detailed contractual language to be drafted.

Once the final wording is completed, the tentative agreement will be presented to union members for a ratification vote.

Until that vote takes place, CUPW retains the legal right to resume strike action if talks break down.

Union officials warn that if the finalized language does not reflect what was agreed upon in principle, the suspension of strike activities could be lifted, potentially reviving the labour dispute.

The possibility of renewed job action had sparked widespread concern, particularly with the holiday shopping and mailing season approaching.
