Harvest across Alberta has advanced significantly over the past week, with warm and dry conditions facilitating substantial progress.
The provincial harvest of major crops is now 77% complete, an 18% increase from the previous week.
This pace is ahead of the five-year average of 68% the ten-year average of 54%.
In the Peace Region, minor precipitation caused limited delays as harvest nears completion.
Overall, major crops in the region are now 78% harvested, well ahead of the five-year average of 55% and the ten-year average of 41%.
Specifically, dry peas are 98% complete, spring wheat 91%, barley 88%, oats 78%, and canola 63% harvested.
Yields are considered reasonable, which is positive considering the dry growing conditions.
In fact, Peace Region yields for all crops combined are expected to be 1% above the five-year average.
