Peace Regional RCMP lay charges after structure fire
Peace River, Alta. – On May. 9, 2025, Peace Regional RCMP responded to a structure fire in assistance with Peace River Fire Department and local Emergency Medical Services on the corner of 94 Avenue and 98 Street in Peace River.
Shortly before the fire was discovered, there was a report where a female was screaming and hitting vehicles, and yet another report of a female screaming and throwing rocks at vehicles as they attempted to avoid colliding with her; both of these occurred within about 100-200 metres from where the fire occurred and only minutes before and after the fire began.
With the assistance and identification of the female via these reports, witness reports of the female from community members who were in the area, and video surveillance, RCMP identified a suspect who was located in just under an hour after emergency responders began working on the structure fire.
Marie Dawn Thomas (36), a resident of Peace River, was charged with: Disturbing the Peace x 2, Mischief x 2 and arson.
Thomas was brought before a Justice of the Peace, where she was remanded with a court date of May 12, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River.
RCMP would like to extend gratitude to all community members who have come forward with witness accounts of these incidents as this assists RCMP in creating strength for files as they go to court.
